The Pin Project
The Pin Project (2019)
Project overview
In June 2019, I led the design for the launch of The Pin Project including a custom type logo, printed pin backers / business cards, and website. The Pin Project was funded by the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation Grant in 2018. The Pin is a tool for the service industry; a simple, identifiable symbol that when worn expresses the intention to not drink. Read more about The Pin Project in the SF Chronicle article.
Utilizing the circle curves and horizontal line from the Pin silhouette, I found I could build most of the letters forming The Pin Project from scratch. Setting a monospaced grid, I established symmetry in the lockup to mirror the Pin. Once the letters were set, the rounded corners were introduced to resemble the bar of the physical Pin.
We wanted to keep the design minimal. At launch, we decided to have the Pin backers and business cards be adaptable to be both, depending if a physical Pin was attached or not. The placement of the Physical Pin is indicated by a smaller printed version of the symbol that would be hidden by the attached Pin if applied.
Modifying a shopify template, I designed and launched The Pin Project's website with photo contributions by Grace Sager (website) and illustrations by Parisa Ghaderi (Instagram: @thedeskofp). Starting from wireframes, we knew we wanted to leverage the clean aesthetic of the backers / business cards but also add playfulness with illustrations and a hint of color. We decided to only launch with the home, about and product pages in June 2019 - stay tuned for new additions!
